Alta's Story

Alta Jewell Massengale Hancock was born in the Alpha community, August 17, 1946 the daughter of the late Jack and Elizabeth Neal Massengale. She departed this life, Thursday, November 16, 2017 at the Berea Health and Rehab Center in Berea, Ky. reaching an age of 89 years.
On August 17, 1946 she united in marriage with Dexter Hancock who passed away November 7, 1999.
To this union four children surviveRay of Shirley, Ind., Sharon and husband Gale Patton of Berea, Joe Hancock of Monticello, and Mike and wife Carol Hancock of Eubank.
Her son Phillip Ray Hancock passed away in infancy.
Also surviving are her grandchildrenScott and Shana Hancock,
Claudia Patton, Kelly Atwell, Joe David, John and Jarred Hancock,
Martha Searight, Donna Hoskins and Laura Hancock; several great-
grandchildren; siblingsLucille Kennedy and Gene Massengale with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends to mourn her passing.
She is preceded in death by her siblingsPearl Bertram, Bessie
Brown, Obie, Odas, Timothy, Eddie, Henry, J.W. and Bruce Hancock.
She had accepted Christ as her Savior and was a member of the Keens Chapel United Methodist Church.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 in the funeral home chapel with Bro. David Pendley and Bro. Ernest Mann officiating.
Burial was in the Davis Chapel Cemetery.
Hickey and Son Funeral Home in chapel in charge of arrangements.
