Clarence "Sonny" Henry Von Harten

Clarence Henry "Sonny" Von Harten, 87, of Beaufort, SC, passed away Thursday, October 19, 2017 at his home.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 26, 2017 at 11am in The Baptist Church of Beaufort.

Sonny was born on October 18, 1930 in Beaufort, South Carolina. He is the son of the late Clarence Henry Von Harten, Sr. and Jessie Rivers Von Harten.

He graduated from Beaufort High in 1947 and earned a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering at Clemson University. He worked as a Sales Engineer and Regional Manager with General Electric for 37 years in steam engine and turbine distribution.

A Korean War veteran he served as a Captain in the US Army in the 76th Engineering Construction Battalion in 1953, where he received the Korean Service Medal with 3 Bronze Stars, United Nations Service Medal, 1 O/S Bar, and National Defense Service Medal.

He is survived by his wife Linda Morrow Von Harten, his daughter Laura Elizabeth Knight, a grandson, Bryan Ross Knight and granddaughter, Jordan Elizabeth Knight, his sister Verna Katherine Neeley (Sam) and a brother, William Rivers "Skeet" Von Harten (Jean). He was predeceased by his son Clarence Henry Von Harten, III.

He was loved by everyone who met him, especially his thirteen sister and brother-in-laws and spouses and children from his wife's side of the family. He was also adored by his nieces and nephew, Kay Neeley, Betsi Jordan, Grace Von Harten and Will Von Harten. Sonny had many special friends, relatives, and fishing buddies who will greatly miss him.
