Elizabeth Hutchinson Cowan was born in the Frazer community of Wayne County on November 15, 1943, the daughter of the late James Russell and Nota Bertram Hutchinson.
She departed this life early Sunday morning February 12, 2017 at the Wayne County Hospital reaching an age of 73 years.
She was united in marriage with Russell E. Hunter who passed away June 1, 1989. In 1976 she united in marriage with John Raymond Cowan who passed away on July 8, 2002.
She is survived by four children—James Leroy Hunter, Ed Russell Hunter Jr., Gary Mitchell Hunter and Tracy Nicole Hunter Diop; and her stepson—Joe Hunter.
She is preceded in death by three children—Sharlene Lenore Hunter Sloan, Harold Edward Hunter and Gwendolyn Hunter; and her stepson—Dennis Cowan.
Also surviving are a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her step-children—Cathy Ferrell, Debra Sandusky, Sherry Cowan, Ruby Berry, John Raymond Cowan, Jr. and Bobby Cowan; her sister—Lorene Sloan; and brother—Monte Delon Hutchinson.
Preceding her in death are her siblings—Agnes Pierson, Margaret Crawford, June Hutchinson, Ray, Rex and Russell Hutchinson, Jr.
She had made Christ her Lord and was a member of the Mt. Zion AME Church.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Mt. Zion AME Church Missionary where she served faithfully on the
Missionary Committee for many years.
Funeral services were held 1 p.m. Friday, February 17, 2017 with burial following in the Mt. Zion AME Church Cemetery.
