Jan. 22, 1924—Feb. 28, 2016 Hobert Barber, age 92, of Monticello, Ky., passed away Sunday, February 28, 2016 at his home. He was born January 22, 1924 in Monticello, Ky., the son of the late Ovid and Eura (Sloan) Barber. He is survived by his wife—Lenola Barber; one son—John Barber; two daughters—Beatrice Newman and Beverly Ball; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers—Bill Barber and Robert Barber; and three sisters—Mae Jarvis, Mary Dot Moore, and Betty Hisel; along with a host of family and friends who mourn his passing. He was preceded in death by one brother—Hubert Barber; one sister— Thelma Smith; and one grandchild. He was a WWII Army Veteran who served his country faithfully. He was also a member of the United Methodist Church. Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Bro. Seth Denney and Bro. Jim Kingry officiating. Burial was in the Elk Spring Cemetery. Full military honors were performed by our local DAV Chapter 105. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to: Hospice of Lake Cumberland or Lifeline Home Health.
