John A. Williams was born September 27, 1936, in Touristville, Ky. He was the second child of the late Walter Williams and Helen Brown Williams.
He departed this life at the age of 81 at Somerwoods Nursing and Rehabilitation on October 3, 2017, after a prolonged illness.
He was preceded in death by his older brotherKenneth Williams; his sisterPolly Desmond.
He is survived by his brotherGene (Virgie) Williams.
He was united in marriage to Lorene B. Williams on May 27, 1967, a marriage of 50 years.
They were blessed by two childrenBarton (Debra) Williams and Kevin Williams; four grandchildrenBrett and Barek Williams, Shayla (Josh) Mincey and Kindsey Williams; two great-grandchildrenCooper and Cambree Mincey.
He joined the Kentucky National Guard where he served faithfully for nine years.
Following high school graduation he tried the trucking business for a short time delivering lumber throughout the region.
He and his brother, Gene, farmed the family farm and other acreage under the title of Williams Brothers.
There was a close bond between them and they were able to work
together for many years until Johnny's health deteriorated.
Farming was an important part of his life.
He was a devoted, longtime member of Tuttle Chapel United Methodist Church; attending church was very important to him. He rarely missed a service as long as he was able.
He loved helping his children with their sports, tractor driving, or any skill in which they were trying to master.
He was a great encourage to his wife and children.
He will be sadly missed by his family, friends, and anyone who knew him.
Funeral services were held Friday, October 6, 2017 at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Bro. Seth Denney and Bro. Doug Thacker officiating. Burial was in the Elk Spring Cemetery.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to: Gideon Memorial Bible Plan or the Alzheimer's Association
Hicks-Vaughn Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
