Mattie's Story

Mattie Ann Perkins, age 90, of Somerset, Ky., passed away on Sunday, June 25, 2017 at her residence.
She was born on March 13, 1927 in Pulaski County, Ky. to the late Madison Gilmore and Frances Evans Gilmore.
She was a member of South Maple Street First Baptist Church where she worked with missionaries, on the culinary committee and sang in the choir.
She worked as a LPN at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital for 25 years, before retiring in 1989.
She was a T.O.P.S. member for over 20 years, Homemaker's member and a member of the Eastern Star.
She enjoyed gardening, cooking, canning and sewing.
She is survived by a sonDavid (Alice) Perkins of Somerset; two daughtersConnie (and Albert) Green of Somerset and Phyllis Duncan of Monticello; two sistersWillena Fitzpatrick of Somerset and Christine Olds of Louisville; nine grandchildrenPhillip (Nancy) Duncan, Michael Duncan, Tracey (Samuel) Bess, Stacey (Robin) Duncan, Sylvia(Robert) Burbridge, Marrisha Green, David Perkins, Jr., Delectrice Perkins and Lakisha Perkins; 15 great-grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husbandJames Perkins, whom she married on September 9, 1950 and he preceded her on May 7, 2007; one sonJames Perkins; a son-in-lawWillie Duncan; two brothersLuther Gilmore and John Gilmore; and three sistersStella Middlebrook, Jessie Waters and Loretta "Louise" Young; and one grandsonJerrion Green.
Funeral services were held Friday, June 30, 2017 at 1 p.m. at South Maple Street First Baptist Church with Bro. Yusef Franklin and Bro. James Barleston officiating.
Burial was in the Stanford Pike Cemetery.
