Roy Lee Black, age 73, of Somerset, Ky. departed this life on
Saturday, August 5, 2017 at Hospice of Lake Cumberland Jean Waddle
Care Center.
He was born on April 7, 1944 in Delta, Ky., to the late Haynes and Verdie Godsey Black.
He loved being outdoors, loved ginseng and mushroom hunting with his sons. He enjoyed working on cars with his son Jr., doing carpentry work, cutting timber, watching western television shows, listening to gospel music, and being with his family.
He is survived by his wifeElsa "Christeen" Black, to whom he was married on June 8, 1963 in Monticello, Ky.; two sonsRoy Lee Black, Jr. (Kim) of Science Hill, Ky.; James (Diane) Black of Science Hill, Ky.; three daughtersDebbie (Mark) Holmes of Nancy, Ky.; Barb (Rick) Meece of Somerset, Ky.; and Kim Black of Somerset, Ky.; two brothersRonnie Black of Eubank, Ky. and Carl Black of Ind.; two sistersBarbara Sue Bishop of Ind.; and Betty Black of Eubank, Ky.; six grandchildrenCourtney Catron, Keisha Wyatt, Hunter Black, Dylan Jones, Zachary Black, and Madison Black; and three great-grandchildrenElla Catron, Sawyer Catron, and Alex Wyatt.
He was preceded in death by two brothersHoward Black and Jerry Black; a sisterVerline Kinser, and an infant sister.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Bro. Eric Criswell and Bro. Donald Kennedy officiating. Burial was in the Taylor Cemetery.
